I failed to write "total" prior to my selections. I understand I did not put the pick in the proper format, so therefore my picks are voided for the week. Enough said about my mistake, I accept the penalty or the "no action" for the week. But I also noticed in the lines posted, the days and dates are listed for the Sunday and Monday night games, yet numerous posters, including myself failed to list the day or date in submitting our picks. Is this also not following the proper format? Maybe I'm being trite, but since I did put "under" and "over" before the points, I would think the picks would count. It seems in other contests at this site, some misinterpretation of rules are allowed during the first week, as long as the poster or posters have entered the picks in "good faith". I also see where you are going to allow Paterno's picks, although they were not submitted in the proper format. I understand, Paterno was out of town and submitted the picks early. I agree with your decision to allow Paterno's picks and realize running a contest can not be easy and you have to follow rules, but a little discretion wouldn't hurt. By the way, I went 2-2, so I would be -20 points. Without the picks counting, I'm still at 0 points, but my concern is, if I can't make picks in a future week, I would be eliminated.

Hawkeye:

I allowed Paterno's picks to be submitted as they were only because I'd not yet listed an exact formula for how they ought to be submitted. He would have no way of knowing how they were to be presented at the time he submitted them.

I am only following SS's advice that we be very strict with how plays are posted, as it makes it MUCH easier to avoid data entry mistakes when all picks can be easily eyeballed. All you need to do is cut and paste your selections.

And you are in no danger of being eliminated if you miss a week. Having your plays graded no action because they were submitted incorrectly isn't the same as not submitting them at all. You have nothing to worry about there, promise.

Again, I am just following SS's advice, and, to be honest, it makes it MUCH easier for me to grade. (Note also, that it's not just the word 'total' that was missing from your selections. If you'd cut and pasted, each ATS team selected would have been in all CAPS, as would the words 'OVER' and 'UNDER', which is the part that I was scanning for.) Nobody needs to include the date and time, just the pick. I'm not penalising anyone for including the date, obviously, as it's not something I'm looking for.

I do apologise for being strict with this, but it's difficult to explain to contestants why I would allow an exception for week one, but not week two, or three, etc. when the rule was always there. It's also difficult to explain why some contests would be stricter than others ... and since SS runs a crapload of these things, I want to do this the same way he runs the others.

I hope you understand.

Xpanda, thanks for the response. All is good. Like I said, I know running a contest is not easy. :toast:
